Porcelain Veneers

Veneers can improve your smile. A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain or plastic bonded to a tooth to improve its color and shape. It generally covers the front and top edge of the tooth. Veneers can be used to close spaces between teeth, lengthen smaller or misshapen teeth, or whiten stained or dark teeth. When teeth are chipped or beginning to wear, veneers can protect them from damage, or return their original looks.

Cosmetic Dentistry: An Introduction

The goal of cosmetic dentistry is to turn an average smile into a terrific smile! It is done by analyzing every aspect of a smile and correcting its problems. Terrific smiles have several things in common:

  • Teeth are straight, not crooked (Invisalign®)
  • Teeth are evenly spaced, without gaps
  • Teeth are white, not stained (Rembrandt®)
  • The gum line is smooth, not uneven
  • The edge of the top teeth smoothly follow the curve of the lower lip

There are cosmetic procedures to help achieve these standards. So, even if you were not born with the smile you’d like, we can still help you achieve it.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

Today, tooth-colored fillings can replace silver amalgam and gold fillings to create a more natural look by using new stronger synthetic resins or porcelain. The materials are bonded to the teeth and are very strong and durable. Silver fillings can really darken a smile and, over time, can stain a tooth black. So replacing them with tooth colored fillings can make a dramatic difference. The new fillings are virtually invisible; they restore teeth to their original beauty and help patients look their best.

Crowns

A crown is used to restore the portion of the tooth that is visible in the oral cavity. Tooth-colored crowns are made with porcelain fused to metal or, with the new technology available today, porcelain fused to a ceramic core. These newer crowns, all porcelain crowns, are a result of breakthroughs in adhesion and materials. They are difficult to distinguish from natural teeth. The lack of metal eliminates the dark line that may occur at the gumline with a porcelain fused to metal crown. All porcelain crowns are a beautiful and natural choice.
